Liquid Watercolor™ Resist Art

An Activity for Preschoolers:

Make stunning resist creations using simple materials.

Before You Begin:

This activity is so simple, only a few supplies are needed. Make sure you have plenty of color choices for crayons and watercolors. Pre-fill paint cups and lay out brushes and paper.

Activity Goals:

Explore color mixing.
Explore cause and effect.
Develop fine motor skills.
Practice creating negative space.

Furthermore:

This activity works well for abstract art too. Using only a white crayon really makes the paint colors pop!

Let's Get Started

STEP 1

Use crayons to draw a picture, shape or patterns on plain paper

STEP 2

With paint brush, paint watercolor directly over the crayon art

STEP 3

Watercolors will blend where they touch, but will resist the crayon art creating a beautiful effect!
