Developing Cognitive Brain Connections

An Activity for Preschoolers:

Recreate numbers, shapes and more with modeling materials!

Before You Begin:

Gather dough or other modeling materials. Provide a tray or flat surface for children to work.

Activity Goals:

To create hands-on connections with STEM lessons.

Furthermore:

A hands-on approach is a valuable way to reinforce the concepts learned during lessons.

Let's Get Started

STEP 1

Allow children to play with and manipulate the dough to discover how to work it and create shapes.

STEP 2

Prompt the children to use their dough to create a concept that has been discussed in class. For example, if you've been discussing shapes, have the children create one of the studied shapes. This can be done for 2- or 3-dimensional shapes.

STEP 1

Have children also recreate numerals and letters as they are studied. This is a great way to familiarize children with these shapes before they practice drawing them.
