Animal Masks
15-30 Minutes: 4 and up: Summeranimal masks
Intro
Take part in an outdoor jungle safari by creating a mask of your favorite animal! Chose to become a tiger, zebra, giraffe or a bear. Which one of God's animals will you be today?
Set Up Ideas
If you have limited time, precut the animal face shapes and ears so kids can choose which animal they would like to be. If you have more time, you still may create samples to demonstrate.
Let’s Get Started
To become one with the animals of the jungle, you'll need to first gather assorted colors of construction paper, glue and wiggly eyes. Displaying photos or models of the animals that the children are creating is a bonus!
STEP 1
Have kids select an animal head and choose which animal they will be. Have them share their reasoning for choosing that animal.
STEP 2
Cut several shapes of construction paper for the noses and ears, and glue them onto the animal face shape, along with wiggly eyes.
STEP 3
Glue a jumbo craft stick to the back of your mask. You may need to use two to keep your mask sturdy.
STEP 4
Allow the glue to dry completely before handling your mask. Then, show off your masks with an animal parade!
Talk about the different animals in the jungle. What do they look like? What sounds do they make? What do they eat? Why did you pick this animal?
Tips and Tricks
Experiment with the materials you have available to see what other animals you can turn into masks. Some ideas may include jaguars, pandas, warthogs and monkeys.
